Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison for bribery, money laundering and other corruption during his two terms as mayor, which included the chaotic years following the Hurricane Katrina disaster in 2005. Nagin was convicted of accepting hundreds of thousands from businessmen who wanted work from the city or the mayor’s support for various projects. Among the bribes, Nagin accepted free vacations, cash and truckloads of free granite for his family business. The former mayor is required to report to federal prison in Oakdale, La., in September.
